U.S. - Iran Gunboat Incident - A fabrication?

Is the United States government capable of lying and fabricating audio tracks to best fit it’s interests? Aparantly so, according to many prominent news agencies. I was shocked to hear the news the other day that an Iranian gunboat had threatened to attack a US Navy warship recently. How absurd? Was this sanctioned by the Iranian government? What was Iran’s response to the incident? Complete denial, right?

Today the Pentagon “admits” that quite possibly the audio didn’t come from the boat, yet from someone on the shore? That would explain an absence of sounds of a motor, sound of the wind as the boat sped along on it’s “destructive” path. A move George W calls “dangerous & provocative”.

My question is this: What’s our President up to nowadays? Why insist on what the entire world, including the majority of the people that elected him, has questioned time and time again. Since George took over, his crooked mouth has done no more than spout lies and more lies.

The dollar is becoming everyday less stable. One year ago, the US dollar was worth 49 Philipine Pesos. Today, it’s worth less than 41 pesos.

The US is on the verge of an economic recession. The “War on Terror” has cost enough lives, money, and human rights violations. It should end.

How can we stop terrorism? Stop electing officials who promote such terrorism with their emperialistic policies.

I have had the priviledge to live outside the confines of the United States. You should hear how most people non-Americans speak about the US. These people aren’t communists; these people are just like you and me. They are not blind, nor deaf.

I am proud to call myself a United States citizen…but it’s time for a change. The Bush administration will stop receiving government funding soon. We can only hope that the next leaders are wiser and better understanding and more tolerant of other religions and races.

Just my opinion and I’m entitled to that…

Hillary Clinton - Comeback Kid

Just as it appeared her campaign was faltering, New Hampshire victory gives her major boost

Jan 09, 2008 04:30 AM

MANCHESTER, N.H. “ Hillary Clinton confounded the pollsters, pundits “ even her inner campaign circle “ by roaring back in the New Hampshire Democratic primary last night, narrowly defeating Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

“I listened to you, and in the process I found my own voice,” she told delirious supporters here who chanted “Comeback Kid,” the name this state hung on her husband 16 years ago.

“Now, together, let’s give America the kind of comeback that New Hampshire has just given me.”

The tense Democratic battle between the two front-runners unfolded on a night when 71-year-old Arizona Senator John McCain rejuvenated a campaign given up for dead last summer by easily winning the Republican primary and vaulting back into contention for his party’s nomination.

With Clinton blunting the momentum that Obama had brought here with him from a convincing victory last week in Iowa, the race for the Democratic nomination now seems set for a long, intensive battle leading to Super Tuesday Feb. 5, when some 22 states will vote or hold caucuses.

But first a battle looms for Democrats in Nevada, then South Carolina, the first southern primary in which a majority of party voters could be African-Americans being wooed by a man seeking to become the first black president.

Clinton shared an embrace with daughter Chelsea with a beaming Bill Clinton at her side as she took the stage moments after Obama tried to rally his backers.

“We are in it for the long run,” she said.

“And that is because we are in it for the American people.”

The unexpected victory by the former first lady came a day after the stress of a potential second defeat boiled over in a small-town coffee shop, where she teared up and her voice cracked as she told an undecided voter how she held up on such a gruelling campaign.

Clinton took an early lead in returns and held that margin all evening long, winning by two percentage points.

“We always knew our climb would be steep,” Obama said.

But he delivered a rousing speech that held little hint of a setback here after he held a healthy lead in the polls.

“At this time, in this election, there is something happening in America,” he said.

“Change is what’s happening in America right now.”

He acknowledged the battle ahead “will be long … but no matter what lays ahead, nothing can stand in the way of millions of voices calling for change.”

Without mentioning Clinton, he told supporters that they had been warned of offering Americans “false hope.”

But in America, Obama said, “there has never been anything false about hope.”

He repeatedly told supporters that victory will still be theirs, punctuating his words with a call of “yes, we can.”

“Yes we can, yes we can, yes we can,” the crowd repeated.

The question today is simply – how did Clinton do it? And how did the pollsters get this race so wrong?

Clinton’s strategy here, opening herself up to questions and showing a more personal side had resonance here, and she also scored well with women.

Far more women voted than men, and Clinton won 45 per cent of their vote compared to 36 per cent for Obama.

Obama also was unable to turn out the young voters who rallied for him in Iowa last week and not as many independents voted for Obama as pollsters had predicted.

Clinton also won in Manchester, the blue collar Democratic bastion that supported Bill Clinton 16 years ago.

And then there was “The Moment” – the moist eyes and faltering, quavering voice at the coffee shop in Portsmouth that was derided by many critics as contrived, but appeared to strike a chord with working women in the room, and possibly beyond.

Three days ago Clinton was 15 points behind in this race and polls even yesterday showed her trailing Obama by double digits amid reports of a complete overhaul in campaign strategy and the imminent firing of senior, long-time campaign aides.

Coming on the heels of last week’s convincing victory in the Iowa Democratic caucuses, Obama had been expected to easily brush aside the Clinton machine here.

As the Republicans head to Michigan for a primary next Tuesday, Democrats have Nevada, where the party caucus is set for Jan. 19, next in their sights.

The populist message of former North Carolina senator John Edwards did not resonate here as it did in Iowa and he finished a distant third behind the two frontrunners.

New Mexico governor Bill Richardson finished a poor fourth and is said to be reassessing the wisdom of continuing in the race.

Turnout was expected to hit a record 500,000, according to New Hampshire Secretary of State William Gardiner, and 150,000 of them considered themselves independents.

Of that total, 90,000 voted Democratic and 60,000 Republican, and it was the voter pool that was expected to decide both races.

Last night’s win was even more stunning because of the steady drumbeat of near-panic in the Clinton campaign that unfolded all day long before the first results were known.

James Carville and Paul Begala, the two legendary figures of the Bill Clinton 1992 victory, were reportedly approached by the Clinton campaign but denied they were primed to jump onboard.

There was also concern in the Clinton campaign that a wholesale shake-up would just feed the narrative of a desperate campaign in disarray. But at a stop to rally voters early in the day at a polling place, Clinton was already looking beyond the crucial Nevada and South Carolina votes later this month.

“I think the nominating process ends at midnight on Feb. 5,” she said.

“I look forward to campaigning across the country.”

Bill Clinton took dead aim at Obama in increasingly shrill terms.

He said the frontrunner had inflated his anti-war stance in 2002.

“Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I have ever seen,” he told a rally.

“You have to decide whether his skills and image are more important than her ability to produce these changes.”

And, in a curious last-minute gambit, he criticized New Hampshire officials for scheduling the primary so close to the Iowa caucus, arguing they had short-changed their voters by not giving them a proper campaign.

Obama - 7 Clinton - 0

Although it sounds like a shutout in a football or baseball game, it isn’t. These are the results from the Dixville Notch, New Hampshire hamlet where Sen. Barack Obama took 7 of the 10 votes cast there. How many did Hillary get? You guessed right, zero.

The big question is, if Barack wins in New Hampshire will Hillary drop out of the campaign? She should.

Gary Zerola Rape Trial Begins

But authorities now say Zerola had another, darker sideline — as a rapist who preys on young women.

He awaits back-to-back trials beginning Tuesday in Boston on charges he attacked two 19-year-olds in 2004 and 2006. He also faces charges in Florida, where authorities say he force-fed drugs to an 18-year-old woman, then raped her in a Miami Beach hotel in October while free on bail in the Massachusetts assaults.

Prosecutors say Zerola met all three women in bars, charmed them, then attacked them when they refused to have sex. In the 2006 case, he allegedly took the woman shopping at Neiman Marcus, where he bought her a $700 dress and $250 shoes before trying to rape her in his Boston apartment.

“He spent some time grooming these girls,” prosecutor Suzanne Kontz said during a hearing in November.

Zerola is free on $100,000 bail. He and his attorney, Janice Bassil, did not return calls seeking comment.

The Gary Zerola described by prosecutors is far different from the man friends say dedicated himself to helping children.

The youngest of seven children, Zerola was placed in foster care at age 3 after his parents split up and his mother became ill. Over the next decade, he was shuffled among a dozen foster families until he was placed permanently with a suburban Boston lawyer and his wife.

Zerola, 36, attended Suffolk University, where he earned degrees in law and public administration. He delivered his law school commencement address.

“He was bright and articulate,” said John E. Fenton Jr., one of Zerola’s law professors. “I don’t remember what he spoke about, but I can tell you he gave an excellent speech.”

He worked as a state prosecutor on child abuse and domestic violence cases and became well-known in philanthropic circles as an advocate for foster children. He started a volunteer group that raised money to buy clothing and gifts for foster kids.

He was regularly mentioned in newspaper gossip columns and fetched an $800 bid in a charity dating auction. In 2001, at age 29, Zerola was named one of People’s 50 most eligible bachelors.

In his People profile, Zerola spoke of his troubled childhood. “Statistically speaking, I should be in debt or in jail because of the upbringing I had,” he said.

In 2000, Zerola opened his own law practice as a criminal defense attorney. His clients included drug dealers and rape defendants. In court, he was known for his well-tailored suits, flashy style and the frequent compliments he paid female court employees.

“It’s a rare instance that you see a kid who has been through as many foster family situations as Gary who was able to rise above all of that, not to get into trouble as a kid, not to turn to substance abuse, but to go to college and then to go on and become a lawyer,” said Michael Natola, a Boston defense attorney who is a close friend.

“He never, ever forgot his experiences as a child and as a young man, and he always wanted to make it easier for kids who were in similar situations as he was.”

In the 2004 case, Zerola stands accused of repeatedly raping a woman in his apartment.

In 2006, a woman told police that after the two went out on their first date, she went back to his apartment to use the bathroom. She said that after she turned down Zerola’s sexual advances, he ripped off her dress and underwear, slammed her head against the wall and refused to let her leave.

The woman dialed 911 on her cell phone and police tracked the call to Zerola’s apartment using a GPS system.

While awaiting trial in those two attacks, Zerola violated the conditions of his bail and flew to Florida this past fall to see the New England Patriots play the Miami Dolphins.

A woman told police she had several drinks with Zerola at a club, then went to his hotel room, where Zerola stuffed pills down her throat. The woman, who told police she was a virgin, said she awoke naked and bleeding in bed beside Zerola.

Zerola told police, “I never had sex with her.” He would not submit to a DNA test, prosecutors said.

Zerola’s law license has been suspended. On his Web site, where he is described as a “highly regarded speaker” and legal commentator who has appeared on TV’s “Power of Attorney” and “Judge Hatchett,” there is now a message noting that he is not accepting new clients or practicing law.

Dixville Notch New Hampshire - The First

Dixville Notch: Quaint, But Not Predictive.

If you instantly recognize the name “Dixville Notch,” you’re a true political geek. If you don’t, maybe you remember the West Wing episode, ”Hartsfield’s Landing,” which was about a thinly-veiled fictional version of the tiny town that votes first on primary day, right after midnight, and is the first results to be revealed on Election Day.

Quaint and picturesque and wonderfully traditional as the little town is, the winner of the town’s 20some votes isn’t necessarily going to go on to win the state. In fact, the results have been quite the opposite in recent cycles.

If Dixville Notch were predictive, then in 2004 Wesley Clark would have won New Hampshire. John Kerry did.

If Dixville Notch were predictive, then in 2000, Bill Bradley would have won the Democratic primary. Al Gore did (although Bradley finished within four percent, one of his best showings). George W. Bush would have won the GOP primary, and we all recall that McCain won big.

If Dixville Notch were predictive, then in 1996, Bob Dole would have won the New Hampshire GOP primary. Pat Buchanan did (although Dole was within a percentage point or so).

If Dixville Notch were predictive, then in 1992, Bill Clinton would have won New Hampshire. Paul Tsongas did (although Clinton did manage to persuade the press that his second-place finish made him ‘The Comeback Kid’).

If Dixville Notch were predictive, then in 1988, Dick Gephardt would have won New Hampshire’s Democratic primary; Michael Dukakis won by 16 percent. George H.W. Bush would have won the GOP primary and… hey, wait, Dixville Notch got one right!

So late this evening, or early tomorrow morning, we’ll hear about the winner of Dixville Notch, something like 12 votes to 10. And that will be nice, but all that will get the winner is 12 votes…

Josh Huston - BCS 2008

Approximately 80,000 spectators filled the Superdome to watch the Bowl Championship Game 2008 in New Orleans and televised on Fox. The Louisiana State Tigers and the Ohio State Buckeyes squared off for a chance to claim the sweet prize of creme-de-la-creme of college football for the 2007 season.

Ohio State had the first possession of the game and it ended with a sixty-five yard touchdown by running back Chris Wells. They got three more points with a field goal on their next turn. LSU threw three points on the board with a field goal in the bottom of the first quarter. Buckeyes 10 and Tigers 3. LSU tight end Richard Dickson’s touchdown in the top of the second quarter tied the game 10-10 (the ball was in his ends for mere seconds after he got into the end zone because–he tossed it into the air on his second or third step). Ohio was going for a field goal and LSU defensive end Ricky Jean-Francois blocked it and then went after the ball. Thanks to a touchdown by wide receiver Brandon LaFell, LSU took the lead 17 to 10 nearing the middle of the second quarter. LSU continued to shine with an interception by cornerback Chevis Jackson, who then ran to Ohio’s twenty-four yard line. Jacob Hester, fullback for LSU, gave his team a bigger lead with a touchdown nearing the bottom of the second quarter. Going into halftime, Tigers 24 and Buckeyes 10.

The third quarter chugged to around nine minutes and then LSU wide receiver Early Doucet made a touchdown. Tigers 31 and Buckeyes 10. Malcolm Jenkins, cornerback for Ohio, intercepted an LSU pass nearing the bottom of the third quarter. Although Jenkins stepped out of bounds at the eleven, he ran into the end zone anyway. Three plays later, wide receiver Brian Robiskie made a catch in the end zone. Ohio State edged on up to 17 points.

The fourth quarter was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth quarter when Richard Dickson made his second TD of the evening. With under two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Buckeyes wide receiver Brian Hartline made a touchdown. LSU 38 and Ohio 24, and that would be the final score. Matt Flynn and his Tigers won the BCS Championship 2008.

Observations & Miscellania:

1. The National Anthem was performed by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band of New Orleans and featuring Clint Maedgen. Not sure what to make of it aurally.

2. When the Buckeyes ran out from the tunnel led by the flag bearer, I thought “Canada! Olympics!” for a split second. The red and the white fluttering in the breeze.

3. After LSU got the field goal in the first quarter, one of the commentators remarked that the game finally started resembling football–it had been more like a track meet in the beginning.

4. Chevis Jackson’s interception in the second quarter was a beauty. The pass was headed directly to Buckeyes cornerback Kurt Coleman (I believe), but the ball somehow floated backwards–yes floated–to Jackson.

5. Halftime consisted of each school’s marching bands performing. Ohio State went first. The band members wore black uniforms highlighted with red in key places (hat, shoulder, arm). Oooo..the shapes they made: butterfly! star! an anchor?! The band leader was wearing red and white. Then they spelled something that looked like “I-S-A-P” but I can’t be sure because the letter on the very left (of the screen) didn’t fit completely on screen. LSU’s marching band performed second (after the Allstate Alumni Kicking Challenge). LSU’s color guard performers were clad in these two-piece bathing outfits somewhat reminiscent of the 50s. LSU’s band also spelled a word but I couldn’t tell what it was from the two-seconds-long high angle long shot. I saw an E and an R and maybe a T–in that order from screen left to right.

6. Allstate Alumni Kicking Challenge. Josh Huston (Ohio State alum) went first and successfully kicked the first and third field goals. David Browndyke (LSU alum) went second and successfully kicked once. Ohio State would get $100,000 for its general scholarship fund; $25,000 would go to LSU.

7. Just past the halfway point in the third quarter, on Ohio’s possession, the camera caught a shot of one Brutus Buckeye, Ohio’s mascot, and then cut to a sea of LSU purple–there was a purple Snow White, a purple Batman, and two other purple people eaters. er, I mean, “two other LSU fans head-to-toe in purple).

8 . Did I hear “booing” in the last minute of the third quarter?

9. After LSU safety Curtis Taylor intercepted an Ohio pass in the second half of the fourth quarter, one of the commentators mentioned that the LSU band always plays the theme song from a 50s TV show called “Terry and the Pirates” whenever their football team stops the opponent on third down or makes a turnover.

Hey! I’m A NINONG!

We just attended a Baptismal Ceremony this morning.  Paulyn’s brother Adrian came by a few days ago to ask me to be a “ninong” (godfather) to his youngest child, Lindsay Cassandra, and so we had to be present during the ceremony, and that was at 11am at St. Benedict Church here at Don Antonio Heights.  Last night, Paulyn called her mom at The Wave Ballroom to ask her what time the ceremony would be as we weren’t able to speak to Adrian all week long after that day he came by our unit.  Her mom told her it was probably going to be at 7am.  Wow 7am!  I couldn’t imagine how on earth we were going to get up this early on a Sunday morning!

Anyway, last night, I was so engrossed with working on the logo of my client while Paulyn was so busy with her blogs.  Little did we both realize that it was already 4am and we hadn’t had a wink of sleep!  So We decided to call it a day, and hoped that we both could still get at least a couple of hours sleep before preparing for the Baptismal Ceremony.

At 6am, the phone rang.  It was Dang, Adrian’s wife calling, asking if Rachel, another sister-in-law, was around as she had not come home from last night’s work at The Wave.  Half asleep, Paulyn told her that she didn’t hear anyone come in, and they probably had to work overtime as it was the grand opening of The Wave’s (extension) Bar last night.  When Paulyn realized it was Dang she was speaking to, it suddenly occurred to her that she needed to ask what time the Baptismal Ceremony of the baby was going to be held. When Dang said 11AM, she was so relieved!  Paulyn jumped back to bed right away.  I woke up and asked if it was time to get up yet.  She said “nope!”, and boy, was I so glad to find out I had a few more hours to sleep!

The Baptismal Ceremony was quick, Adrian and Dang were both so glad to see us come.  I was in a serious mood.  It was the first time I’ve ever participated in such a ceremony.  I listened intently to the priest and observed the people around.  I was so amazed to find a lot of people at the church and asked Paulyn how many Ninongs and Ninangs could a baby have.  When she said “they could have 20, if the parents wanted 20 Ninongs and Ninangs”, I assumed all the others were Lindsay Cassandra’s Ninongs and Ninangs too.  But it turned out to be a mass Baptismal Ceremony and Paulyn said “yes, they were Ninongs and Ninangs, but not of Adrian’s baby”…LOL!  After the ceremony, we had lunch at Adrian’s place, and finally went home.

Here are a few shots Paulyn was able to take at the church this morning
